PLOTINA met the Women’s Commission of the Universities branch of Eğitim-Sen, one of the largest and best-known Turkish workers’ unions operating in the education sector. The meeting took place in Istanbul under the auspices of Özyeğin University, Plotina’s Turkish partner. Özyeğin actively participated in the “Gender in the Academia Workshop” held by the Eğitim-Sen Women’s Commission, which was aimed at discussing policies to be presented at the forthcoming Union’s Women Conference in November.

During the workshop, academics from Istanbul University and the Aegean University delivered presentations concerning structural and historical aspects of gender discrimination. Strategies for overcoming sexism and inequalities were identified around the main axes of:  gender-sensitive budgeting; harassment and mobbing regulations; implementation of sexual rights and reproductive health; integration of gender issues in teaching curricula and research projects; prioritizing of women’ and mothers’ needs in the design of buildings and infrastructures dedicated to teaching and research.
